It took me 18 years to gather the courage to make the move, but I’m so glad I did. It’s where you’re meant to be, where you’ll come the most alive, where you’ll feel the most you. This is the beauty of following your dreams. 📸: years ago this month I packed everything up and moved to California.įor three years I’ve lived near the ocean, surrounded by palm trees, and in 70* weather… and it still hasn’t lost its magic on me. We can’t order our kids around and then expect them to speak up for themselves once they’re adults. Even if it makes others uncomfortable or makes things awkward because their safety, peace, and well-being trumps people’s feelings of discomfort. I want to raise my kids to be connected to their bodies, trust their gut, and speak their truth. That’s not the kind of human being I’m trying to raise. Too often we treat kids like they don’t know what’s best for themselves, that they’re things we can just order around, and they should only ever respond with politeness. I love that my son trusted his gut, said no with fervor, and that I didn’t smother his intuition with politeness. Had that been me as a kid, I would have been told I was being rude and I should say “No thank you”. I was proud of my son for knowing immediately what his answer was and not holding back on making it very clear. And we def don’t guilt a child for speaking their truth and doing what’s right for themselves. We don’t tell children whom we don’t know what to do. He then guilted my son when he said no, saying he’d regret it if he didn’t do what he was telling him to do. He also didn’t ask my son if he wanted to go on the water. The older gentleman didn’t ask me if I was okay with a stranger taking my son on the water. TOG: You’re going to regret it later for not doing it. TOG: Come on! You can stand in front of me. The older gentleman looks at my son and says: Get on! (to his paddle board) Yesterday I was at the beach, and there was an older gentleman paddle boarding who saw me and my 6yo son standing on the shore. Let yourself be surprised by how fast things can change, how quickly you can quantum leap.Īll things are possible, and they can happen freaky fast.😎 So whatever timeframe you feel is pulling at your heart, listen to it. That we have the ability to create any reality we want pretty fckin fast. We are not doomed to years or decades of struggle. I love that we are not required to follow anyone else’s timeframe.
